Ernst Stuven (Hamburg 1657–1712 Rotterdam) – German descent, well known representative of Dutch painting school. He specialized in the field of decorations and flower nature morte. Was born in the city of Hamburg in 1657 and studied under George Heinz – the premier of nature morte genre in the town. Later moved to Amsterdam in order to perfect his skills under the supervision of most prominent masters of that time – Jan Voorhout, Willem van Aelst, Abraham Mignon – which later turned into collaboration. After some period of time Ernst Stuven started working independently under some governmental orders in Amsterdam and Roterdam and became mostly known for his flowers. The painter left significant circle of followers who undertook his style of painting; the examples of Stuven’s work could be found in the most world-known museums in the Netherlands, Germany, USA, Czech republic, Poland.
